Tea Story

In November 2019, we visited the gorgeous island of Taiwan for the second year in a row. With a rented car, we drove to several tea regions; including Puli in Nantou county, neighboring the famous Sun Moon Lake, and Pinglin to the north. Home to the celebrated Ruby Red tea (aka Red Jade or Sun Moon Black) and Baozhong (aka Wenshan Pouchong) respectively.

We met two young tea makers who have both helped their families continue their tea-making traditions through modern means, and are incredibly passionate about their craft. We're now super excited to share both of their 2020 harvested teas via Tea Mail to you!

If you've never tried Ruby Red, it is an experience to be had. As a hybrid between a native Taiwanese tea cultivar and a Myanmar Assamica variety, Ruby exhibits cooling notes of mint, eucalyptus and flowers, yet spicy and malty undertones, while remaining light in body. An extremely complex cup that we love to drink in the summer because of its refreshing qualities, this tea will have you questioning your entire notion of black teas.

And then we have Baozhong, which with one sip makes us feel as though we've escaped to a garden of fresh gardenia and honeysuckle flowers. Elegant and floral, yet buttery in mouthfeel, this lightly oxidized oolong made from the Qingxin cultivar is an easy favorite.
