Fujian Tender Buds Spring White Tea

One of our all-time favorite teas, this delicate White Peony is the tea that started it all. Grown in Zhenghe, Fujian, where the teawala journey began, we always feel nostalgic when brewing it.

We first visited this producer back in June 2017 and then again in March 2018. Both times staying as a volunteer, helping with all white tea processing steps from picking and withering the leaves, to drying, sorting and even making white tea cakes. Led by Tea Master Yang, Longhe was created with the vision of bringing the traditional craft of white tea back to the Zhenghe region. We are now super excited to carry our favorite tea from them - a premium Mudanwang grade White Peony, made from Fu'an Dabai varietal. Picked and processed once a year during the onset of Spring, the protective layer of white fur remains on the buds and in your cup.

This batch was picked in March 2019, before Qingming festival, and is extremely tender. Unlike most White Peonies, where bud, larger leaves and stem are mixed together, we've selected a premium White Peony that comprises of only furry buds and tiny sprouting leaves (bringing it closer to the coveted Silver Needle). The result is an extremely fresh tea with muscat grape and flowery notes, syrup-like mouthfeel and a beautiful, lingering aroma.

We love to brew this tea as an afternoon treat, or sometimes even in the evenings. It has a strong muscat grape aroma, and can endure several brews - a pleasant surprise for a delicate white tea. For those who love floral white wines such as Moscato and Riesling, this is the tea for you!

We recommend brewing this delicate White Peony in a Gaiwan, to showcase all the different layers. Or, if you prefer to brew Western style, show off the beautiful buds in our glass teapot and enjoy watching the leaves dance!
